HONKY- live at the 7th Street Entry
Here's the band you want to see, Son. Honky, a rippin' trio from Texas. This
is what ZZ Top used to be, "before they ran out of drugs," sez 2000 Single
Speed World Champ Hollywood Henderson. Shitfire. JD Pinkus (ex-Butthole
Surfer) plays a Flying V bass! Jumping right into it with "Smokin' Weed
w/Helios Creed." Can you think of a better song title? Well, I suppose you
could; "Don't Shoot Baby, I Love You" from their new album, "House of Good
Tires" is pretty good. At this point, I should mention that it was Tuesday
night, which means two-for-one's on PBR. In the can. Good company included
Henderson, 5th Annual 5th Annual Pig Roast Derby victor Greg Gentle, Chuck
Norrie, and Wheels Sheely; it was damn near too good to be true. But of
course it does get better: Local legend Hardcore Dave was also in
e-f-f-e-c-t. Some drunk fool in front of the stage alternated between
spilling beer on the guitarist's pedals, and playing with a duncan yo-yo.
Meanwhile, the crowd was jumpin'; mad devil horns thrown in the universal
Hessian Salute. Honky plays that rumblin', ramblin', chugga-chugga stomp
rock that means business. Encore? Skynrd's "Simple Man." Dig it.
